VLC 2.0.5

Today, we released VLC 2.0.5. This is a minor update to VLC’s 2.0.x series, which improves the overall stability of our application.

It’s available for download now as well as through the in-app updater on Mac OS X. We will push the update to our users on Windows directly as soon as the load on our servers allows.

Noteable changes include:

  • Improved reliability for MKV, Koreus and SWF playback
  • Resolved system sleep issue on OS X 10.5
  • Resolved potential security issues in HTML subtitle parser and AIFF demuxer
  • Fixed MPEG2 audio and video encoding
  • Various minor fixes and improvements
  • Improved HTTPS streaming on WIndows
  • Improved reliablity for libVLC based applications
  • Updated translations for Asturian, Bengali (India), Bosnian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, French, Galician, Scottish Gaelic, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Khmer, Malayalam, Polish, Slovak, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, Turkish and Thai

Additionally, I would like to give a status update on our fundraiser for VLC for Windows 8, RT and Phone on Kickstarter. At time of writing, it is at 56 % of our goal of £40,000 thanks to more than 1,500 generous backers. Thanks a lot for the support! It’s another 14 days to go and we really hope to achieve our goal in time. More updates on this endeavor, soon!

  1. Just wanted to mention I was able to make VLC crash consistently. If I hold the fullscreen button, VLC goes crazy trying to go back and forth between window/fullscreen. After a short time it crashes. Every time. It should only count 1 time until button release. Also I commented about customizing the amount of volume % change with two finger gesture and “continue playing video from last position before quit.” These are the only things preventing me from switching permanently to VLC. Thanks a lot! Keep up the good work.

  2. Since version 2 (2.0 – 2.0.5) VLC can not play audio in sync with video. Every single AVI or DVD is out of sync, especially when skipping forth and back. Hello?!? VLC 1.1.11 plays everything flawlessly!

    1. Make sure to reset your preferences. If the problem persists, chances are high that we have a fix in VLC 2.1, since timing is dramatically improved in this future release 🙂

  3. Really I am great ! fan of vlc player and almost my all friend’s used vlc player. I would like to give one suggestion – Make a Premium version of vlc player too and add more great! functionality like watching movie in different color modes etc.. which will attract all of us 🙂

    1. No way we will do a premium version. We could legally, but for political and philosophical reasons, we are strongly against such a much.
Have a look at the Video Effects panel. There are plenty of options to play with the color modes already.

If you wish to contribute financially to VideoLAN, there is a donate button on our official website and your help would be greatly appreciated, since this money is what allows us to pay for servers, infrastructure, test devices and so much more.

  4. Hi Felix,
VLC plugin 1.0.5 Intel is not working with OS X 10.8.2. Is there a change that an update will be provided soon?
    Herby

    1. Hello,
this is normal since VLC 1.0’s web plugins do only run on 10.5 and possibly 10.6.

and yes, we will publish an update based on VLC 2.0 later this spring to address this issue 🙂

  5. Hello and compliment for your work.
I play video with Videolan but all my audio music with “AIMP” because it support “VSTi”, has a realtime equalizer and the best analog-digital vu-meter.
Could you add this functions to your program? Thanks.
