Today, we released the third beta of VLC 4.0 for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. We’ve been hard at work to fix all crashes and major issues found in the previous beta. The ongoing UI redesign continued and we added a lot of new features!

New features since beta 2
- Add an On Air tab bundling radio and podcasts
- Add podcast support: subscribe through RSS, browse shows and episodes, download, play and search
- Radio: redesigned discovery with a country browser, a favorites grid and recently visited countries
- Radio: schedule an alarm to wake up with a station (iOS 26.1 and later)
- Add a share extension to receive files from apps such as Voice Memos or Telegram
- Browse: redesigned interface using artwork tiles for servers, cloud services and favorites
- Google Drive: browse My Drive, Shared with me and shared drives, follow shortcuts
- Wi-Fi Sharing: add download all or a selection of files at once
- Network browsing: sort by name, date or size
- Expose playback to Siri and Spotlight through App Shortcuts, including radio stations and videos
- Adopt the iOS 27 audio intents for songs, albums, artists, playlists and genres
- Media library: enqueue to the play queue with a swipe
- Media library: sort albums by artist and remember the sort criteria per collection
- Playlists: reorder multiple tracks at once and show the number of tracks and the total duration
- Restore the last played media list on the next launch
- Player: close the topmost panel or the player itself using the Escape key
Bug fixes since beta 2
- WebDAV: fix connections to encrypted servers such as Nextcloud
- Player: fix black screens after locking/unlocking the device or backgrounding the app
- OneDrive: fix directory listings with thousands of items
- Player: fix video being slightly cut off on newer iPhones
- Player: fix restoring the playback position on slow-starting media
- Fix the file extension of downloads from non-compliant UPnP servers
- x-callback-url: fix URL decoding and playback of external subtitles
- Fix a full-screen flash of the audio player while its artwork was reloading
- CarPlay: reload when the favorites change
- Numerous fixes to the web interface, the on-boarding, theme switching and the mini player
Known issues
- Picture-in-Picture is offered on devices where it is actually unsupported
- Files stored in Google Drive fail to stream — download them instead
- Multiple UI rendering issues on iOS 12
- Chromecast fails to connect and render
